Every Consecutive Vintage of
Château d’Yquem
produced from 1860 to 2003
Of impeccable provenance, the heart of this
unique collection was accumulated by Didier
Segon, a French wine merchant during the period
1966-1985. Since then it was extended by a
British collector, and the lineage was completed
by The Antique Wine Company.
The original owner was a man of great
privilege, a close friend of the Lur Saluces
family, and a frequent guest at the chateau.
With the 300-year era of family ownership of
Yquem having now passed, the sight of these
precious bottles of liquid nectar is a
breath-taking spectacle.
This is not only a collection of the finest
white wine in the world, it is to our knowledge,
THE most extensive and complete range of
consecutive vintages, and an assemblage of
history and nostalgia.
It is a story that begins with the legacy of
President Abraham Lincoln, the American civil
war and the Russian revolution, to the
inventions of electricity, the television,
telephone aeroplane, and the internet. Marx,
Ghandi, Churchill, Einstein, Picasso, Ali and
Mickey Mouse. From the ascent of Everest to
man’s first moon landing. History in Wine.
In a poor vintage, the entire crop is deemed
unworthy of bearing the Château’s name; this
happened 9 times in the 20th century (1910,
1915, 1930, 1951, 1952, 1964, 1972, 1974, 1992).
The Antique Wine Company has secured from
Chateau d’Yquem nine factice bottles, the label
of which carries a certification by Pierre
Lurton, President of Chateau d’Yquem that no
wine was produced in the relevant vintage. This
unusual gesture made by Chateau d’Yquem enhances
the symmetry of the collection and is a further
unique feature.
We recognise that the desire to pull a few
corks and taste such vintages will, to most wine
aficionados be irresistible. We have therefore
secured duplicate bottles in 68 vintages of the
141 years of the collection available as a
supplement.
The Antique Wine Company are now pleased to
present this collection, now contained in two
bespoke walnut cabinets crafted by Royal
furniture maker David Linley, to the world
market for acquisition by a new owner, someone
who will no doubt recognise this as the ultimate
addition to a lifetimes achievement of wine
collecting.
